Pick the issuer, the deposit amount and the tenure. The calculator applies that issuer's published rate for the tenure and shows the maturity value and total interest, so you can compare issuers on the same amount before booking. Rates are the issuers' current cards and change with their announcements.
What is an FD calculator?
An FD calculator shows the maturity amount and the interest a fixed deposit earns for a chosen issuer, amount, tenure and payout option. This one uses the current rate cards of the company and NBFC deposits Sanriya distributes, so you can compare issuers on the same amount before booking.
How is it calculated?
Cumulative: Maturity = P × (1 + r)^t; Non-cumulative: Interest = P × r × t, paid out in instalments
- P is the deposit, r the yearly rate for that tenure and payout option, t the tenure in years
- Senior-citizen additions are added to r where the issuer offers them
Questions people ask
A cumulative deposit reinvests the interest and pays it with the principal at maturity, so it compounds. A non-cumulative deposit pays interest to your bank account monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly and returns the principal at the end. Choose cumulative for growth, non-cumulative for income.
Interest is added to your income and taxed at your slab, whether paid out or accumulated. Issuers deduct 10% TDS once interest in a financial year crosses the threshold (₹50,000 for most depositors, ₹1 lakh for senior citizens). Eligible depositors can submit Form 15G or 15H to avoid deduction.
It depends on the issuer's ability to pay, which its credit rating indicates (AAA is the highest). DICGC insurance covers bank deposits only, so spread company deposits across highly rated issuers and keep them to a part of the portfolio.
Most issuers allow premature withdrawal only after a lock-in, usually three months, at a rate 1% to 2% below the card rate for the period the money stayed. Some schemes do not allow it at all. Read the terms before booking money you may need early.
Most issuers add 0.25% to 0.50% a year for depositors aged 60 and above, and some add more for women or renewals. The calculator shows the issuer's senior-citizen rate when you tick the option.
A fixed deposit gives a stated rate and fully taxable interest. A debt fund has no fixed rate but can be redeemed any day. An SWP from a mutual fund taxes only the gain in each withdrawal. Many retirees hold two years of income in deposits and draw the rest through an SWP.
