How this calculator works

Pick the product, enter your investable portfolio and the share you would allocate to it. The calculator compares that allocation with the SEBI minimum (₹10 lakh for a SIF, ₹50 lakh for PMS, ₹1 crore for an AIF), a quick way to see whether the product is sized for you yet. Minimums are set by regulation and can change.

What is the minimum investment for PMS, AIF and SIF?

SEBI sets the floor for each: ₹10 lakh for a Specialized Investment Fund, aggregated across strategies with one fund house; ₹50 lakh for a Portfolio Management Service, in cash or securities; and ₹1 crore for an Alternative Investment Fund, usually drawn down in instalments. This check compares the allocation you would make with that floor.

Questions people ask

  • SEBI sets them so that products with concentrated, leveraged or illiquid strategies reach investors who can absorb a loss on that scale. The minimum is a floor on the product, not a judgement on the investor.

  • There is no rule, but a single manager at 40% of a portfolio concentrates a lot of outcome in one place. Many investors keep any one PMS or AIF to 10% to 25% and the alternatives sleeve as a whole under a third. The share depends on your goals, liquidity needs and other holdings.

  • Yes, ₹50 lakh is the SEBI minimum for a new PMS client, in cash, securities or both. Once invested, smaller top-ups are allowed as long as the portfolio stays above the minimum. Some managers set a higher entry.

  • ₹1 crore is the floor for most investors; employees and directors of the fund manager can invest from ₹25 lakh, and accredited investors can go below it in funds that admit them. The commitment is usually drawn down over two to four years.

  • ₹10 lakh aggregated across all SIF strategies with one AMC, so two strategies of ₹5 lakh each with the same fund house qualify. Accredited investors are exempt. If redemptions take the holding below ₹10 lakh, the AMC redeems the balance.

  • The SEBI-registered portfolio manager or fund, with the money held by its custodian. Sanriya Finvest, an APMI-registered PMS distributor and a distributor of AIFs and SIFs, helps you compare, complete the agreements and keep the allocation reviewed against your goals.
